Driver Charged In Hitting Child With SUV

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The driver who struck an 11-year-old girl with her SUV has been arrested.

Fort Worth Police have identified the driver as 28-year-old Laura Martin. She has been charged with intoxication assault.

The accident happened on the 1300 block of Barrel Run in Fort Worth.

The child was taken to Cook Chrildren's Medical Center by a helicopter ambulance with head and leg injuries.

The child was walking on the sidewalk when the driver of a Ford Expedition lost control and struck the child and a tree before crashing through a brick wall around 9:45 a.m.

Witnesses told the Fort Worth Fire Department that the female driver of the Ford Expedition hit one or more vehicles on a neighborhood street, then turned into the 14200 block of Sendera Ranch Boulevard on the wrong side of the four-lane, divided road.

Martin was transported by ground ambulance for evaluation; her injuries were non-life threatening Saturday

Fort Worth PD Traffic Investigation Unit investigated the incident.
