DPD Searching For Gunman In Deadly Apartment Shooting

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Dallas police are still searching for the gunman/gunmen responsible for a Red Bird-area double murder.
Two men were found shot to death in a third floor apartment that looks out onto the Highway 67/Marvin D. Love Freeway. The names of the victims have not been released and police have not named a suspect -- but, many in the community are reaching their own conclusions.
"Black men killing black men!" exclaimed Joyce Williams who lives nearby. This was not a police shooting, so no protests will likely follow these deaths.
"It's so close to home because I have two boys," says Williams, "it just hit close to home. I just called my son and said 'give me call.'"
Although police declined to call the murders "drug related", clues at the scene suggest a possible motive. Dallas Police Department Deputy Chief Rob Sherwin explained, "There does appear to be drug paraphernalia in the apartments. We're very early in this investigation. We have a lot of work to do. We have a lot of people that we need to talk to."
Police response to the Brandon Mills Apartments was delayed for several hours, because the caller that first reported the shots at about 4 a.m. sent officers to the wrong apartment, and then couldn't be reached. The caller phoned again after 7:00 a.m. and police then discovered the bodies of the two men.
As word spread about the murders, an impromptu prayer circle formed in the apartment complex parking lot by late afternoon. Yet, few of those assembled would admit to knowing the men for whom they mourned.
Still, there is something so familiar about the crime scene tape and patrol cars, that even strangers were saddened. "Drug houses, and all of that needs to stop," says Williams, "there needs to be some cleaning up over here. I don't want my boys to get trapped like that."
