Donation Drive For North Texas Pet Food Pantry
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Workers in North Texas say that often it isn't just schoolchildren who may have a harder time getting balanced meals during the summer months. Representatives with the Don't Forget To Feed Me Pet Food Pantry (DF2FM) say animals are often in dire straits in the summer.
Liesl Manone, the operations director for Don't Forget To Feed Me, explained, "Children are out of school, they're not eating school lunches, they're not eating school breakfasts, and the parents are feeding them at home. So, their [family] grocery bills rise. What happens, because of that, is that sometimes the animal food budget goes away."
To help North Texas owners keep from abandoning their animals or taking them to shelters, the annual Hot & Hungry donation drive kicked off on July 4th.
The donation drive first started because Manone said they noticed a consistent trend. "Donations drop off as people are busy, they're out of town, they're on vacation, they're doing a lot of other things during the summer," Manone said. "So right when our demand increases sharply or supply drops off as well. Folks rely on these pantry partners… that give out our pet food. They just need more during the summer."
The goal of Hot & Hungry is primarily to raise money for the pet food pantry, but pet food donations are always accepted.
According to the DF2FM, two-thirds of Americans are pet owners. With that being the case, the organization says, "the need to provide pet food to pet owners experiencing economic uncertainty is real and immediate."
The Hot & Hungry donation drive runs through July 25. Monetary donations can be made online or by mailing to --

Manone also said, "We have a wish list on Amazon.com, so people don't even have to leave their house. They can make a pet food donation straight from Amazon and it gets sent straight to us."
