UDPATE: Melinda Vinzant was arrested at 5804 Margewood on January 13, 2016 at approximately 3:00 p.m., and was booked into Lew Sterrett Jail.  Vinzant was charged with Cruelty to livestock Animals, Cruelty to Non-livestock Animals and various warrants.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Animal Services seized 40 dogs, 8 horses and at least one cat from a Dallas home after someone made an animal cruelty complaint. They also recovered dozens of dog carcasses.

The Dallas Marshal's Office, Dallas Police Department and Code Compliance joined DAS to serve the warrant at the home on 5804 Margewood Street.

A DAS spokeswoman said the home owner had received more than 40 citations previously. She also said the house is cluttered with lots of dust and debris. On a positive, the DAS spokeswoman said it seemed the dogs were routinely fed.

Horses were kept in a pen on the property, often times knee-deep in the mud, according to witnesses.  All the horses seized were covered in mud.

Neighbors said they complained to the city about the smell, the fleas and the incessant barking. They expressed relief that the city had stepped in to help the animals.

The animals were taken to Dallas Animal services to undergo exams. The organization is asking for people to come forward and adopt the animals so they have enough room for other animals that need homes.
