ABILENE (AP) — Court documents indicate an off-duty West Texas police officer found slain in his home was bound hand and foot and was strangled.

The Abilene Reporter-News reports the information comes from affidavits for search warrants released Thursday.

The body of Abilene police Officer Don Allen was discovered Aug. 31. Clyde police found the victim in the bedroom of his home.

A husband and wife from Abilene, Phillip and Violetta Walter, were arrested days later and remained in Taylor County Jail in Abilene on Thursday, charged with murder. Bonds were set at $500,000 each.

The affidavits say Allen's death appears to be by strangulation. Autopsy results were pending.

Police say a police-issued radio belonging to Allen was found Wednesday afternoon by a highway contractor along Farm Road 18, near Clyde.
