Doctor Says Parents Should Know Risks Of Sports

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - For many kids in Texas, any football stadium is a field of dreams.  Most parents know the potential dangers before allowing their kids to play.  But a sports medicine doctor says player safety depends on good coaching and body conditioning.

Dr. Howard Moore treats many student athletes, and is the doctor for a number of middle and high school football teams.  "I'm not certain it's dangerous inherently, as long as the individuals are coached properly, and they're in condition."

In football, concussions are of course a major concern.  But as for a recent injury to a junior high player, Dr. Moore says a direct hit to the chest area can also happen with any other sport.
