DISD Teacher Terminated After Sexual Assault Charges
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 26-year-old former Dallas Independent School District (DISD) middle school math teacher and assistant basketball coach has been charged with two counts of Sexual Assault.
Scott Paul Alcaraz was arrested on April 19. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl while employed at Thomas C. Marsh Middle School.
The teenager making the accusation reportedly told authorities she had sex with Alcaraz in his classroom at Marsh.
The same day Alcaraz was arrested, the school sent a letter to parents notifying them of the allegation of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student. The note said the teacher was "immediately placed on administrative leave."
Alcaraz was freed after posting $50,000 bond on Saturday. If convicted of the Sexual Assault charges, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
On Monday the Dallas School District took the further step of terminating Alcaraz' employment. The school has also scheduled a 6p.m. meeting at the school to discuss the incident with parents.
