DISD Considers Plan To Turn Around Troubled Schools
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas ISD is looking to turn around its most academically troubled schools and has put together a list of 14 campuses that are up for redesign.
Dade Middle School is on the list. After police pepper sprayed students to break up a fight Monday, many parents voiced their frustrations over the learning environment at a meeting with Superintendent Mike Miles Wednesday night.
Today, the school board will take a look at the plan DISD has for Dade and 13 other campuses.
Eight elementary, three middle, one high school and two alternative DISD schools are deemed improvement required. If a school is on that list for two years, the state says something must be done, which can be different for each campus.
Part of the so-called reconstitution plan for Dade, which has only been open two years, includes a change in leadership (a new principal starts next fall), and incentives to lure teachers at high performing schools to come there.
The number of schools on DISD's improvement required list is up. A district spokesperson says it's not just Dallas, the numbers are up statewide.
This will be the board's first discussion of the reconstitution plan and will vote it into action later in May. The following is the list of schools on the list:
