DISD Considers Campus Security Upgrades
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - School board officials with the Dallas Independent School District will discuss making some major changes to their campus security plans. The board plans to vote on $4.5 million in upgrades at a meeting on Thursday.
Buzzers are already in place at Barbara Jordan Elementary School, and they could become the norm at all DISD campuses -- along with features like surveillance cameras, intercoms and peepholes in every portable building. The district is also considering installing card readers on the side doors of schools.
Threats have occurred at schools all over the country, but the tragedy in Connecticut is the biggest reason that these key changes are being carefully deliberated. If the school board approves these measures, they will be phased into campuses starting in May.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at DISD headquarters, and it is open to the public.
