DISD Awarding Students For First Day Attendance

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Three lucky students in the Dallas Independent School District will receive big bucks on the first day of classes, and all they have to do is show up on time.

Every student who arrives to their first class will have their name entered into a random drawing. Three students will be awarded with a $500 debit card from DISD School Board President Lew Blackburn. One student will be selected from each academic level -- elementary school, middle school and high school.

The first day of classes in the DISD is Monday, August 27.

"Attendance is critical to a student's academic success," Blackburn said. "I want to make sure that each student and their parent or guardian realizes just how important attendance is, starting with the first day of the school year."

Blackburn is also encouraging sponsors, local businesses and others to make matching donations to the DISD, allowing more students to receive the bonus incentives. If you would like to make a matching donation, contact Blackburn at 214-232-6380 or Lew@LewBlackburn.com.
