Disappointed Fans Race Home After Duck Commander 500 Postponed
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The only race that took place at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday was the race to get home, after the Duck Commander 500 Sprint Cup was postponed until Monday due to bad weather.
The face was reschedule for Monday at 11 a.m. Gates open at 9 a.m.
Thousands of fans cleared the stands after waiting for hours in the cold, windy and wet weather.
"That's the problem, whenever you get Duck Commander involved, we start getting duck hunting weather," said Willie Robertson, star of Duck Dynasty.
But duck hunting weather and NASCAR don't mix.
During a long break between rain showers, NASCAR launched it's team of Air Titans and jet dryers, hoping to push water off the track.
Even after several rounds around the track, seeping water, cold temperatures and a lack of sunshine made it impossible to get the track dry enough for racing.
"It's just disappointing that all these people wanted to come to this event and they showed up and some of these people won't be able to come back and see it tomorrow," said Mike Morrison, a NASCAR fan.
The race was set to begin at 2 p.m. Driver introductions took place at 2:45 p.m. and the delays continued until about 6 p.m. when officials postponed the race.
It seems a dark cloud has hung over the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit. There have been 5 rain delays in 7 races. But some North Texans said the rain was badly needed.
"Overall, we really can't complain. I know we need the rain, it's just had on NASCAR day," said Tammy MOrrison.
Fans who can't go to Monday's race have one year to use it for another race at the track.
