Dirk To The Warriors? Good Luck

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - If the Warriors had it their way, Kevin Durant would be in the Bay Area this coming season.
While that may or may not be likely, (I think he resigns with OKC on a two-year deal with an opt out after the first season) what is definitely not likely is their second option.
A report from the San Jose Mercury News says that the Warriors will set their sights on Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki after first reaching out to Durant.
According to Tim Kawakami's report, a Warriors executive said their approach this upcoming off-season will be "very aggressive."
I totally understand Golden State asking the 18-year veteran if he wants another shot at a title. Because, let's face it, the Mavericks must land a big fish to compete in the stacked western conference next year.
We've all heard this "big fish" conversation before. Carmelo said no, LeBron said no, Chris Paul said no, Deron Williams said no, Dwight Howard said no, DeAndre Jordan said...nevermind.
However, the Mavericks are a Dwight Howard or a Hassan Whiteside away from competing for the #4 seed in the Western Conference. You may say, who cares? Golden State, Oklahoma City and San Antonio are the favorites and no one will beat them. If Dallas had that attitude, they wouldn't have won the championship in 2011.
After earning the #3 seed, Dallas was picked to lose to the Portland Trailblazers, they won.
Dallas was picked to lose to the Lakers, they swept them.
Dallas would surely lose to the Oklahoma City Thunder, they won in six games.
Dallas can't possibly beat the new Big 3 in Miami, they climbed out of a 2-0 hole to win the series in six games.
If Dirk didn't get his ring, this would be an entirely different story. I'd say go ahead and chase your ring, Dirk, you deserve it. Although, I'm not sure Dirk would even leave then.
And, while, Kawakami notes in his report that the source told him they had no idea if Dirk would even be interested in the move, let's save them some time...don't even bother.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is loyal to his star player and his star player is loyal to him. Dirk wants another ring, who doesn't? But, he's different.
Dirk is just fine competing at the highest level, making the playoffs, and leaving it all out on the line for this city and this franchise.
As the Big German says, all you need is a little luck in the post-season, you just have to get there.
Dallas got a little luck in 2011, the Warriors will need more than that to get one of the most loyal and gracious players ever to entertain leaving the only franchise he's ever known.
