Dirk Could Finally Start All-Star Game

DALLAS (CBSSPORTS.COM) - Dirk Nowitzki has made 10 consecutive All-Star teams, yet the 7-footer has never been voted in as a starter by the fans. He's always finishing behind Tim Duncan and Carmelo Anthony.

But, now that Anthony plays in the Eastern Conference and Duncan is in decline, will Nowitzki finally get the fans' vote? It won't be easy. Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant and Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin could be tough to beat.

"He deserves it. It'd be nice," Mavs owner Mark Cuban said. "It's the only thing really that he hasn't accomplished, which is kind of crazy when you think about it -- Finals MVP, league MVP, never been voted a starter."

In other Mavs news: The team will leave Dallas a day early on Sunday for its two-game road trip to Detroit and Boston to make a stop in Washington D.C. The defending champions, who the league did not schedule to play at Washington in this shortened season, will visit President Barack Obama at the White House Monday.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban said he took the lead on making the trip happen, although the league then chimed in that they made it happen. Either way, the champs will get their day at the White House.
