Diners Shocked To Find Racial Slur On Receipts

PANTEGO (CBSDFW.COM) - A night out to celebrate the new year was ruined for a group of North Texas friends, because of a note written on their restaurant receipts. The group said that they came to Shatila Restaurant after church and had a good dinner. But they were shocked at what happened next.
A server at the restaurant had used the N-word on every ticket given to the table. The word was followed by a number, presumably used to keep track of which tab belonged to each person.
When the friends first noticed the racial slur, they checked with other tables to see if anybody else had similar notes on their receipts. But no other tickets did. The friends said that the slur was used only to describe their particular table.
"It's sad that it's still occurring," said Ta'les Russell about this experience. "We are here in the new year, starting fresh, celebrating with family and friends. This is the worst way to start, with everything going on in our society in Ferguson. It's sad that we have to experience this still today in 2015."
The manager did apologize, and offered the group a free meal. The server was fired. However, the manager downplayed the situation, maintaining that the server was new and meant no harm.
"We're forgiving people. We've accepted their apology," said Justyce Hill. "But it's more about allowing it to happen in the first place. It wasn't something that should have been tolerated. Should have been noticed right then and there."
"They need to emphasize it to their staff," said Jasmine Tucker. "They can let go our waiter, but what if the rest of their waiters are doing the same thing? They need to emphasize this is not okay."
