DFW Hospitals Welcome New Year's Babies

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Several hospitals across North Texas on Wednesday morning were eager to celebrate the births of their first 2014 babies.

The first child born in the Metroplex this year was most likely Ella Elizabeth Mejia. Officials with JPS Hospital in Fort Worth reported her birth time as just 30 seconds after midnight. Mejia was 7 pounds 6 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long. She is the fourth child of Maria Perales and Jose Mejia of Justin. The couple already has a 6-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl.

Dominic Wesolowski was born a short time later, at 12:19 a.m. at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. He weighed in at 8 pounds 4 ounces and measured 21 1/4 inches long. He is the first child for Heather and Cory Wesolowski of Sagniaw, and came via an unplanned Caesarian section. Mom had been in labor for two days. "He was stubborn," added Heather Wesolowski. "He had to make sure he was born in 2014!"

And then, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center saw its first baby born 51 minutes into the new year. Shivam Sharma measured just 18 inches long and weighed 4 pounds 12 ounces. He is the third child for Asha and Arun Sharma of Arlington. The parents already have a son and daughter.
