DFW and DAL airports implement ground stop due to severe weather
DALLAS – Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is leading the nation with the most flight delays Thursday afternoon.
Both DFW and Dallas Love Field are under a ground stop due to thunderstorms, causing frustration for some travelers during the holiday rush.
"I hope everything goes by smooth," said Karina Paniagua, stranded in DFW overnight. "We are just tired."
Paniagua and her family missed their connecting flight to DFW from Mexico City because their plane sat at a standstill for over an hour, waiting for a gate to become available for deboarding.
Another traveler, Latoyia Pugh, and her husband sacrificed time with family over Christmas to fly internationally and celebrate their wedding anniversary. Instead of enjoying their special occasion, they spent it at the airport, enduring over 12 delays.
"From there, I was getting text messages saying there was another delay, another delay," said Pugh. "We already had reservations in Tokyo for things to do. Now we are scrambling trying to get money back for things we already had planned."
According to the FAA, the ground stop for Dallas Love Field will last until 12:30 p.m. and at DFW until 1 p.m.
Flight Aware is currently tracking over 170 flight delays out of DFW.
Airlines recommend downloading their app to stay up to date on delays, cancellations or gate changes.
