DFW Connector Project Opening Bridges, Lanes

DALLAS (KRLD/CBSDFW.COM) - Starting tonight traffic flow will get a whole lot better around the north end of the DFW Airport and in Grapevine as the DFW Connector project opens up two new bridges.

At 8:00 p.m. Thursday the northbound lanes of the International Parkway bridge out of the north exit to DFW Airport will open up for traffic.

The southbound lanes are scheduled to open Friday night and will carry traffic from State Highway 121 over to westbound Hwy. 114.

The construction zone will still be active and officials ask that you watch for some lane shifting over the weekend because workers will be demolishing the old bridge structures.

NorthGate Constructors oversees the massive project, spokeswoman Kristen Schropp says "These two major traffic switches will improve traffic flow near the DFW Airport significantly." Schropp says they also hope to avoid major road closures during Grapevine's GrapeFest Festival next weekend.

The $1.1 billion DFW Connector project is currently about a year ahead of schedule, with a scheduled completion date sometime in the Summer of 2013.
