DFW Connector Construction Nearly Done
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - Great news for anybody who regularly travels through the DFW Connector Project in Grapevine, just north of DFW International Airport. After more than three years of construction, the work is nearly finished, one year ahead of schedule.
Most of the construction is completed, and drivers will notice the change immediately. There are no more orange cones or barrels blocking lanes or directing vehicles on where to go. Crews wrapped up the major portions of the project at about 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning, and the final traffic configuration was put into place.
So, the roadway configuration that is in place now -- including ramp locations and which lanes go where -- is the final version that will be in place for decades to come.
A few pieces of construction equipment do remain along the sides of the highway to be used for smaller tasks that must still be completed before the entire project can be called "finished." That work is expected to wrap up in just a few weeks.
The DFW Connector Project cost more than $1 billion.
