DFW-Bound Flight Makes Emergency Landing

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Officials say a Dallas-bound American Airlines flight powered down an engine after a bird strike and made an emergency landing at Mineta San Jose International Airport in California. No injuries were reported.

American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller says the MD-80 aircraft was carrying 139 passengers and five crew members.

Airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes says the plane returned to the airport about 20 minutes after it took off around 6:20 a.m.

It then taxied to a gate.

Miller says crews were evaluating the plane to determine if it can be brought back into service.
