DFW Auto Show Returns This Weekend
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Whether it's a need for speed, fuel efficiency or a large payload, more than 700 vehicles are sure to catch the eyes of all kinds of drivers at the DFW Auto Show which takes place this weekend at the Dallas Convention Center.
There will be lots of "oohs" and "ahs" heard, because 400,000 people or so are expected to attend the four-day event.
Organizers say the buzz words are Look, Compare, Test Drive and Dream. For potential buyers, this is one-stop shopping. Les Chapman, President of the DFW New Car Dealers Association said "It gives them the opportunity to look and touch and feel all these cars without the pressure of a salesman overlooking them and forcing them into buying something."
This is the auto show's 32nd year. Yet, we're told, it's the first time every single auto make will be represented. And there are plenty of options: from penny pinching - to luxury living and everything in between. The cheapest car is a Scion for about $10,000. Then there are the cars with 6-figure price tags, like a Rolls Royce that's more than $500,000. Most people can't afford them, so a lot of guests still get the most out of attending by taking a picture of themselves in front of cars like Maseratis.
A unique thing to see is the Ford Atlas. There is only one version because it's a concept truck. "It's a futuristic truck that highlights, potentially what the F-series brand is going to look like in the future," said Gordon Platto, the Chief Designer of Ford trucks. He went on the say the Atlas shows how a few of the things we could one day see in Ford trucks include moveable rims and grills. With a push of a button, it becomes more aerodynamic. "I've been at Ford Motor Company 20 years now," Platto said. "And this is one of the funnest projects I've worked on."
More than 20 vehicles on display will be the 2014 versions, and organizers say that's more than normal.
Six different car makers will offer test drives.
