TV Show's Truck Causes Scare At DFW Airport
DFW AIRPORT (CBSDFW.COM) – Security at DFW Airport shut down a terminal for about two hours Sunday and briefly detained a stuntman who left a Penske truck containing an automatic weapon, a pistol and pyrotechnic equipment unattended, airport spokesman David Magana said.
The man was questioned and released once authorities saw he had the required permits to be in possession of those items, Magana added.
FBI official Kevin Gentry says after questioning it became clear the truck was driven by a member of the crew of the Discovery Channel show "Sons of Guns." He says investigators had been suspicious because the man in the Penske truck had said "I got a couple of guns."
The driver was at the airport to pick up a friend and drive to Las Vegas. Magana said the man told authorities he wasn't aware he couldn't leave his truck unattended.
Security dogs alerted officers to the truck near Gate B-38 at 2:00 p.m., who then shut down the terminal. Gates B-27 to B-37 were reopened at 3:40 p.m.
No flights were postponed and no charges were filed, Magana said, adding that the scare was "nothing."
