DFW Airport Keeping Eye On Winter Weather
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - The chilly winter weather passing through North Texas on Tuesday has already had an impact on operations at DFW International Airport. Airlines have canceled 190 departures, which represents around 20 percent of the schedule, as well as 165 arrivals, or 17 percent of those scheduled.
Airport spokesman David Magana said that crews have been taking extra precautions to ensure that travelers are safe. Roadways near the airport along with airfield surfaces have been inspected and treated, and all runways are open and in good condition.
Airlines have also been de-icing their planes prior to each departure.
Airport officials plan to continue monitoring their facilities throughout Tuesday, as the winter weather threat remains in place. Those who do need to fly out of DFW are urged to check their flight's status before leaving for the airport. Also, while surrounding roadways have been treated, drivers are cautioned to be careful on bridges and overpasses which may still be slick, and allow for additional time to take it slow on the road.
