Attorney Says Dez & Mom Had 'Disagreement'
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - With his mother Anita Bryant by his side, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant sat at a conference room table and listened while his attorney Royce West addressed the media regarding the alleged family violence charges against him.
Dez was arrested after a July 14th incident in which he allegedly hit his mother, Angela Bryant, across the face with a ball cap at her DeSoto home. A police affidavit says Bryant grabbed his mother by her T-shirt, causing her bra to tear.
Anita Bryant has now told authorities that she doesn't want to pursue a case against her son after an argument between the two allegedly turned violent.
Did a family disagreement occur? Yes. Did Dez Bryant commit family violence against his mother? No." said Attorney Royce West who was reading from a prepared statement. "Like all families, the Bryants have disagreements."
"Mr. Bryant and his mother, Angela, are appearing here today because they feel it is important to address recent reports that Mr. Bryant committed family violence against his mother. Although Dez would like to speak to this matter, on the advice of counsel, he will not make any statements at this time." said West.
Dallas prosecutors are currently considering a misdemeanor family violence case against Dez.
The NFL and the Dallas Cowboys have declined to comment.
