Dez To Decide On Season-Ending Finger Surgery
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Jerry Jones revealed on Tuesday that Dez Bryant - not the team - will decide whether or not the Cowboys' star receiver will undergo season ending surgery on his finger.
Jones joined 105.3 The Fan's new School with Shan & RJ with an update on Bryant's injury.

"We're still having it reviewed by medical people," said Jones. "He certainly had an injury to his left index finger. It has not been decided by Dez, who will be the ultimate decision maker, whether or not he wants to try and continue to play with a lot of protection or whether or not he should have surgery."
Jones noted that Bryant could play with the pain if he chooses, but this decision also carries the risk of suffering from life-long stiffness if further damage is done.
"People that know hand surgery know that if you get in there and fix it, you have a chance of avoiding it," said Jones.
Terrell Owens was in a similar situation in 2006, albeit much earlier in the season, says Jerry. He chose to forgo surgery and have surgery after the season.
"Make no mistake about it, Dez is chomping at the bit and wants to take the route of playing," said Jones. "Certainly we are very mindful of everything involved here and are making sure that everyone, mostly Dez, has all of the right information so that he and we can make a decision."
The team expects to learn more about the injury over the next few days.
Jones also commented on a report by The Fan's Mike Fisher that nose tackle Jay Ratliff had a physical confrontation with Jones after a week 13 win against Philadelphia.
"I think the world of Jay. I think of him as a competitor and know how hard he's worked to be where he is," said Jones. "We let the emotion of the game the other day get to us, but that's just they way things work sometimes. He wants to win; he wants to everything he can for the team and that's the way I want it."
The two reportedly were involved in what sources call a "volcanic and jaw-to-jaw exchange" that forced others to intervene.
Jones said that Ratliff is trying to get back on the field but is doubtful for the team's upcoming game against the Steelers.
"He's one of our team leaders, and make no mistake about it, he can help us," said Jones. "He's gonna be out there if he has a leg to stand on."
