Dez & Irvin Talk Rings For Papa

OXNARD, Calif. (105.3 THE FAN) -- Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin says there is a "nervous anticipation" for Dallas' 2015 season because of how great this team can be. At the same time, he's encouraging the confidence of his "son" Dez Bryant's desire to "have those three rings on my fingers the way you have them."
Irvin is at Cowboys camp working for NFL Network (and getting some Cowboys guest-coaching in on the side). In his interview with Bryant, No. 88 Dez said to the previous owner of that jersey, "I want to rock them eights the way you rocked them. I want to have those three rings on my fingers the way you have them."
Later I asked Irvin to reflect on that lofty goal.
"I think greatness is always set by greatness that came before you," Irvin replied. "I always said that I wanted to top what Drew (Pearson) had done and I'm glad that Dez says that. All fathers want to make their ceiling their kids' floor. That's what we're all trying to do, say 'Hey kid, I did the best I could do with it, now I'm giving it to you. You take it from here. Make my ceiling your floor. Step on my ceiling and go higher.'"
So, three rings for the Dez-era Cowboys?
"Take that three and go make it six, and go bring it on home to Papa," Irvin said. "That's what we want to do. That's what I'm hoping."
