Child Shot In Dallas, Taken Downtown In Bullet-Riddled Car

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A four-year-old girl was shot twice in the left leg Saturday afternoon in Oak Cliff and brought downtown in a bullet-riddled car near Megafest at Young Street and Lamar Street.
Dallas police say officers saved the child's life by applying a tourniquet to the wounds.
The child was then rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer C. Mattox remained by the victim's side, held her hand, and kept her distracted as they rode to the hospital together. Officer Mattox was captivated by the victim's bravery, and stated that she was "a trooper," who remained calm and alert despite the severity of her injuries. On the other hand, DFR paramedics praised the Dallas police officers' swift actions, and stated that the use of the tourniquet prevented the victim from bleeding out.
Police say the shooting happened near E. 6th Street and N. Marsalis in Oak Cliff. Neighbors tell CBS11 they heard gunfire.
A distraught mother flagged down Dallas officers near Young Street and Lamar Street.
Preliminary information indicates three men in a vehicle fired shots at a family of four.
It's unclear who or why.
