Despite Second Opinion On Finger, Dez Wants To Play
DALLAS (CBS SPORTS.COM) - While the Cowboys were beating the Bengals last Sunday to grab an emotional victory, Dallas receiver Dez Bryant injured his left index finger and there was speculation that his season could be finished as a result.
After Bryant got a second opinion on his finger from a hand specialist, ESPN's Ed Werder is reporting a fracture was confirmed and Bryant would need surgery. But Werder also writes that Bryant plans to delay the surgery until the offseason and will attempt to play through the pain.
NFL.com's Albert Breer reports that in order for Bryant to play, the team will have to determine a way to protect his finger. The team has a hard splint that Bryant will use at practice. But until he catches passes, it's unclear whether it can protect his finger and if he can actually catch with it.
Coach Jason Garrett told reporters Thursday morning that the team is still evaluating Bryant and that no decision has been made about his availability. It's clear, though, that Bryant wants to play.
"It would take more than this to take me out," Bryant said Tuesday. "No way. They'd have to break my leg to keep me out."
