Despite Economy, Babysitters In Big Demand

DALLAS (KRLD) - Despite a poor economy, babysitters are in big demand, making childcare an area that seems to be recession proof.

Rachel Logan, president of the babysitting company Sitter Central, says even when the recession hit the need for a babysitter remained.

She has opened three new franchises during that time period. She says even when money is tight...families need childcare.

Logan said even the unemployed are often in need of a babysitter.

"We've had a lot of moms that lost their jobs, and then they end up getting rehired and they'll call me and say, 'Rachel I need a sitter from three to six Monday through Friday,' because their kids are in school," she said. "So we do a lot of 3-6pm, Monday through Friday placements."

Sitter Central caters to clients who need regular daycare and those looking for last-minute assistance.

"Say it's a Friday night and you and your husband decide to go out around four o'clock in the evening," Logan hypothesized. "You guys can book a sitter online… and you just reserve the sitter online and she comes to your house that evening."

Logan started Sitter Central in 2006 and said the company has done nothing but grow.

"We started with about 50 families. We now have 300 families. We have 700 babysitting jobs go out a week. I've sold three franchises since I launched my company."
