Despite Crushing Loss Cowboys Can Still Win Their Division
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 NEWS) - Dallas Cowboys fans could look at the bright side: despite a crushing loss to Green Bay after holding a 23-point halftime lead, the Cowboys still have a chance to win their division.
But, after fans saw two totally different performances from their team, from one half to another, heads are shaking and people asking, "What is happening to this team?"
Frank Balderrana traveled from El Paso to see the game and remembered his halftime euphoria with his team up 26-3. "I was thinking they had that game won and looking hopeful to make the playoffs and maybe even win the division."
Kyle Kirms made a pilgrimage from New Jersey to the see the game. "At halftime, I was just, oh man, I was so fired up!" she remembered. "My voice is just completely gone. My friend next to me he had drank a good amount and he fell asleep. He was like, 'Aw, its over!' I had to wake him up in the 4th quarter and it was like, 'This game's not over at all.'"
It was a wakeup call for everyone. "It was horrible," Balderrana said. "Just disappointment is all I could feel."
There are two questions in the Cowboys Nation. The first -- who do you blame?
"Bill Callahan has got to be gone," Kirms said of the offensive coordinator. "And Monte Kiffen? I mean we got the worst defense in the NFL."
Different people had different opinions. "Tony Romo, because he's not working hard enough," said fan Skylar Pollock, who works in a restaurant next to AT&T Stadium. Fan Freddy Diaz agreed. "When it's the fourth quarter you can't put the ball in Romo's hands and have faith in him."
The second question -- can the Cowboys win the next two games and make the playoffs?
"I doubt it," Pollock laughed. "The Cowboys can't even win three games in a row. They can't make the playoffs."
But Diaz still had faith. "I think they will somehow pull it out. This year they have to have a good year, so, they got to pull some kind of trick just to get there but I think they can."
Others had moments of being realistic, while holding on to optimism. "If I had to guess I'd say we beat Washington this week and probably lose to Philly and go 8 and 8," Kirms said. "That's our normal reputation. But, I still believe."
