ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- It wasn't funny when Texas Rangers starter Derek Holland injured himself last offseason while "clowning off" with his dog.

But with the season behind us and Holland having returned to All Star form, it's time to laugh it off.

Holland and the Texas Rangers, along with Derek's dog Wrigley, have released a video wishing Rangers fans a happy and safe holiday season.

"Wrigley and I have had quite the year this year. But through thick and thin, family sticks together," says Holland as he walks carefully down the stairs. "The holiday season brings a new year and a clean slate. On behalf of all the Texas Rangers family, Wrigley and I would like to wish all Rangers fans a safe and happy holidays."

Holland underwent microfracture surgery in January on his left knee and didn't appear in a game for Texas until September. When he did return, he was 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in five starts.

The 28-year-old lefty explained the events that led up to the injury.

"As I was going up the stairs to get away from him trying to hide, he decided to be pretty sneaky and caught up to me and clipped me as I was up the stairs. I fell down a little bit of them. It could have been really bad, I could have fell all the way down and probably crack my head open. I caught myself. My knee had buckled really bad. I didn't think it was really that bad until I got up I was pretty sore and noticed that me knee had swollen up pretty bad."
