Denton Woman In Coma Dies From H1N1
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A Denton woman that was in a medically induced coma for over a month, diagnosed with H1N1, died Friday night.
Toya Norman, a 46-year-old mother of two, was being cared for at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Her sister, Shay Johnson, told CBS 11 News this morning of the death. Norman had a secondary infection of pneumonia.
The family received a call last night that Norman was failing, and were told it was a very aggressive case of H1N1.
Norman had been lying in bed specially designated for patients with H1N1 in the medical center's ICU.
The family said it all started around Christmas Eve. Norman had complained of a mild cough and cold after not receiving a flu shot.
Two days later she was admitted to the Denton hospital, and was there until the time of her death.
This would be the eighth flu-related death in Denton County if the medical examiner confirms it.
