Denton Smoking Ordinance In Effect
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Denton joined the growing list of North Texas cities to ban smoking Wednesday. It's now unlawful, according to a press release from the city manager's office, for anyone to smoke or possess a lit tobacco, weed, or other plant product in various public places, including restaurants and bars within restaurants and bowling alleys. Exceptions to the ordinance include outdoor patios, bars open to anyone aged 18 and older, tobacco shops, tobacco and cigar bars and fraternal organizations.
But local businesses are allowed some breathing room to comply with the ordinance; 30 days starting May 16. For a complete list of establishments covered by and exceptions to the smoking ordinance, click here.
In addition to the month-long grace period, the city is giving establishments affected by the ban one no-smoking sign each at no cost for a year starting April 24, 2013.
After that time period, it's up to business owners to buy their own no smoking signs.
