Denton Pumping Money Into Struggling Mall

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A lot of home owners in Denton are hoping a deal with the city will turnaround the Golden Triangle Mall and the surrounding area. The city is pumping $9.5 million into renovations for Golden Triangle.

Economic Development Director Linda Ratliff says in approving the incentive for the new owner this week, the council understood improvements to the 30 year-old mall are critical to reviving the area west of I-35 E where some restaurants have moved out.  "Hoping that the Red Lobster and Luby's are the next ones to fill up," Ratliff said.

She says spurring along renovations has been tough because the last owner, Simon Properties, lost the mall to the bank in the recession. Since then, many popular national retailers have left. Renovations could be done by the end of next year.
