Denton Man Shot On His Front Porch, Police Searching For Suspect
DENTON (CBS 11 NEWS) - Police are searching for the gunman who shot a Denton father of four in the face late Thursday night. They're hoping someone will recognize the suspect from the sketch below.
Police say he is Hispanic, 18-20 years old, 5'7" to 5'11 or medium height, thin but toned in build with short possibly buzzed dark hair and a clean shaven face.
The victim, Jose Carmen Sanchez, 47, went out on his porch after his 13 year-old daughter answered the door late Thursday night. The man at the door asked for Sanchez by name, saying he needed help fixing his broken-down vehicle.
The girl fetched her father, only to hear shots fired moments later.
"He stepped outside, a conversation ensued for a couple minutes and then she heard a loud pop and went she got to the door she saw her father had been shot and he was laying on the porch," said Officer Ryan Grelle, spokesman for the Denton Police Department.
The suspect fled and the girl called 911.
Claro Torres, who lives two doors down from Sanchez, heard the shots but never dreamed they were aimed at his brother-in-law.
"I go running and I see he's down on the floor. A lot of blood, but I don't know what's going on," Torres said.
His wife is Sanchez's sister.
Shortly thereafter, his niece told him what had happened.
Sanchez is still fighting for his life at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Torres said. He is in serious condition.
