Denton Elementary School Hosting Film Festival To Raise Funds

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- An elementary school in Denton is using a creative project to raise funds to purchase more iPads for the school.

Wilson Elementary School has created its own Film Festival, comprised of films created by each of the school's classrooms.

Voters can go online and use their dollars to select the winning film. 100 percent of the proceeds will be used to purchase iPads.

Any classroom that raises $1000 or more will receive an iPad Mini for their classroom in addition to contributing an iPad to the class set for checkout.

The school is hoping to raise $30,000. As of Monday morning, the project has raised $5,495.98, according to the school's website.

The films were recorded on 24 iPads purchased by the school last year. Unfortunately, the demand for the iPads necessitates additional computers for classroom use.

The competition runs through Dec. 31. The school will be holding a "Red Carpet event" on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Ryan High School Auditorium to celebrate the festival.
