Denton County Grassfire Continues To Burn, 200+ Acres Charred
DENTON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A Denton County brush fire continues to burn. The blaze in the Town of Trophy Club has charred more than 200 acres.
Dry brush has provided fuel for the fire and shifting winds have caused flames to jump from place to place.
Nearly a dozen fire companies, with some 60 fire responders, have been called in to fight the flames. All first responders are working in rotating shifts, requiring breaks for rest and hydration.
A thick cloud of heavy smoke is making sight lines and breathing difficult.
So far, only acreage has been destroyed. No structures have been lost and there have been no injuries.
The fire jumped from Trophy Club Lane onto a dried out peninsula of Grapevine Lake. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers manages the property near the lake.
Fire officials are performing precautionary door-to-door alerts at residences, but there are no mandatory evacuations in place.
A fire command post has been set up near the intersection of Chatswood and King Streets.
CBS 11 Meteorologist Jeff Jamison confirmed that a cold front is starting to move through Trophy Club. Shifting winds with increased speeds are pushing in with the front.
As it stands, fire crews from Justin, Double Oak, Lewisville, Argyle and Northlake were called in to assist. First responders Denton County Fire Marshal, Southlake, Grapevine, Flower Mound, Roanoke and Trophy Club have been trying to contain the blaze since 3 p.m.
