Denton County Firefighter Dies From Brain Cancer

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Mike Bell, a 19-year veteran of the Denton Fire Department, died Sunday evening after battling a rare form of brain cancer.

Bell, who suffered from gliosarcoma brain cancer, served as a Denton firefighter and paramedic for 19 years and would have celebrated his 20th anniversary with the department at the end of January.

In November, Denton firefighters rallied to shave their heads in support of their comrade to raise money for his medical expenses.

"You don't get a better brotherhood than the fire department. These guys are great," Bell told CBS 11 News just before he took a razor to his friends last month.

Bell lost his hair after his first round of chemotherapy in January. He underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and four surgeries in all.
