Denton Attorney Petrina Thompson Arrested For Allegedly Firing Gun In Office Where She Had Lost Job
DENTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A Denton attorney was arrested after police said she fired a gun in the law office where she had lost her job earlier in the day on Friday, November 15.
Petrina Thompson is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said witnesses told investigators Thompson brought a handgun to her former workplace, Martinez Legal P.C., then fired one round before taking off.
Police arrested Thompson about a mile away and said they found the gun in her car.
She was booked into the Denton County Jail with total bond set at $150,000.
The law office said in a a statement Tuesday, Thompson, who had been employed for "only a few weeks" was notified on the morning of the 15th that it would be her last day at the firm.
As she was cleaning out her office, she went to her car and returned to the office with a gun hidden in a duffle bag, the firm said through The Crouch Group.
When she pulled the gun from the duffle bag, Marci Martinez and her paralegal in the office ran out in opposite directions.
A single gunshot was fired before the gun apparently jammed. Police believe that because the gun was jammed, no other shots were successfully fired.
"Thankfully no one was injured" said Marci Martinez. "We are grateful to the Denton Police Department for their rapid response to the situation. Our law firm is continuing to serve our clients with legal representation of the highest quality."
