SAN MARCOS (AP) - Texas State's Dennis Franchione is retiring after a 30-year career as a head coach with stops in New Mexico, TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M.

The 64-year-old Franchione's retirement was announced Tuesday by the school in San Marcos, where he led the Bobcats for seven seasons.

Franchione has a 213-135-2 career record. He led his teams to nine conference championships, nine bowl games, four NAIA playoff games and one NCAA Division II playoff.

Franchione was head coach at Texas State in 1990-91, then returned in 2011. The Bobcats were 3-9 this season.

Texas State will immediately begin a national search for a new head football coach.
