IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -- Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, the NFL's leading rusher, was voted the 2014 Offensive Player of the Year by the Professional Football Writers of America.

Murray rushed for a club record 1,845 yards on a league leading 392 carries, finding the endzone 13 times.

The now free agent rushed for 100+ yards 12 times -- also a franchise record -- including eight straight times to start the season.

After four seasons in Dallas, Murray is now an unrestricted free agent.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who led the Packers to a 26-21 win over Dallas in the divisional round of the playoffs, was named the Most Valuable Player.

The defensive award went to Texans defensive end JJ Watt, who had 20.5 sacks and led the league in tackles for loss, quarterback hits and fumble recoveries.

The PFWA is composed of accredited writers who cover the NFL and the 32 teams on a daily basis.
