Delivery Truck Driver Killed In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A delivery truck driver was shot and killed early Thursday morning outside of a convenience store in Fort Worth. It took place at the QuikTrip location on Bryant Irvin Road, in the southwestern part of the city.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene at around 4:00 a.m. and said that the driver of a Groendyke fuel truck had arrived at the store at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. He started unloading fuel but, at some point, was shot and killed in the cab of his truck. At least two bullets pierced the windshield.
Authorities are not yet sure about what time the shooting occurred, but believe it was before 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
However, the store was open at the time of the shooting and people were inside. Police talked with the store employees, but they did not see or hear anything unusual. They came out to check on the truck driver and found him dead.
Detectives are also reviewing surveillance camera footage to see if it can provide details as to how and why this incident happened. "They're searching for evidence," said Tracey Knight with the Fort Worth Police Department. "We know that it was a gunshot wound, so they're going to be searching for shell casings, things of that nature, so it's going to be wide to see if there's any evidence in the area."
The investigation is still in its earliest stages. There are no suspects or leads at this time, and the name of the vicitm has not yet been released.
Groendyke is based in Fort Worth. A spokesperson for the trucking company said that the driver was in his late 20s and had been working an overnight shift for about a year. The statement said, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones involved, including friends and family of our driver. We are shocked and saddened by the tragedy. Our driver had an excellent safety and work record for Groendyke. He will be missed."
