DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A new kind of park will be popping up in Dallas, but blink and you might miss it. Folks in the Deep Ellum area will be getting a temporary park, but it will only be there for a very short time -- just four days.

Deep Ellum already has a lot of character. But, aside from the sidewalks and restaurant patios, there is not a good place for groups to congregate outdoors.

This is something of an experiment to show the potential for what a permanent park could offer to the Deep Ellum area if one were to become a reality. Work begins Wednesday to set up the park along Crowdus Street. This project has been in the planning stages for two years.

Volunteers have been working hard to construct seating, an outdoor library and many other details that will make this park a vibrant place for concerts, movies and other outdoor activities -- for four days.

The park coincides with the Congress for the New Urbanism meeting, which brings together leaders in urban planning and architecture from all over the country. Organizers are hoping that, once officials experience the temporary park, it will bring the area a step closer to getting one permanently.

The unique pop-up park opens Wednesday and runs through Saturday night, taking up a private parking lot and about 12 parking spaces along the street. There are many events planned including live music and a movie screening.
