Death Of 4-Month-Old Baby Being Called "Unexplained"
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police are investigating the death of a four-month-old girl. Police found the baby after responding to a call at an east Oak Cliff apartment complex.
It may take weeks for the Dallas County Medical Examiner to determine what caused little LaRiah Chandler to stop breathing. The infant, who had no visible signs of trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hours after the baby's death her mother, Latisha Chandler, explained what she did when she realized something was wrong. "I called the ambulance. At first, they were on the phone; they kept trying to tell me to do CPR, but it wasn't working," Chandler said emotionally. "All I seen [sic] was milk coming out of her mouth. She was not breathing."
Members of Dallas Fire Rescue, who arrived at the Cedar Glen Apartments four minutes after getting the call, were unable to revive LaRiah.
Chandler is having a difficult time dealing with the death. "I'm a good mother. I do what I need to do for my kids. She's only four months [old]. She hasn't ever been sick, since she's [sic] been born."
There has been no official determination, but police think the death may be from natural causes or the result of an accident.
"The police just told me that… they didn't tell me anything," Chandler said. "They don't know why she past or nothing. They just said I have to come pick her body up. They didn't tell me anything. They didn't tell me anything."
At this point, police are calling the incident an "unexplained death."
