Deadly Shooting At Sherlock's In North Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man is dead after an attempted robbery turned into a shooting outside of a popular North Dallas bar.
The incident happened at about 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning in front of Sherlock's Pub & Grill, located along North Central Expressway.
According to witnesses at the scene, the restaurant's bartender was outside talking to two men. A gunman approached the group on foot and tried to rob the bartender.
A friend of the man, Donald Glynn Morrow II, stepped in, attempting to prevent the robbery from taking place. But the gunman turned his weapon on Morrow, shooting him in the head.
"I was sitting right there in the patio of Sherlock's," recalled witness Sergio Nunez. "I was just sitting and I heard a gunshot. Once I heard a gunshot, I looked and I saw a guy falling."
The bartender and the other man were not injured during the incident. The suspect fled from the scene before police could arrive.
Morrow's parents say their son died as he lived....trying to help others.
"If there was a wrong he was a righter of wrongs," his mother, Margie Morrrow told CBS 11 News. "He was one of those people who found it hard to accept in life that things can't be made right. He felt that everybody had a right to a second chance and that everybody had a right to live and to be happy. And he was always coming to somebody's aid."
Morrow's father, Donald Morrow I, said his son was actively involved with neighborhood crime fighting efforts.
"He was on the crime watch in our area and had been for 4-6 years," the elder Morrow said, adding that his son had cellphone number for all police working the area. "They all knew him; he could call them any time and they would call him back because they knew who he was and what he stood for."
The Morrows are devastated at the loss of their son. "I don't know what this man that shot him can possibly get out of this," says Margie Morrow, " I'm trying very hard not to be bitter and angry; I'm trying very hard not to say 'I want him dead."
But she was consoled by a phone call from one of the people her son tried to shield in his last moments.
"He said that Don saved their lives. He said his girlfriend and him would not be alive if it had not been for him last night." She adds, "It does help, it does help. It helps that he was so loved."
