Deadly Dallas Shooting Leads To Police Chase & Standoff

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There is a breaking news situation in Dallas where a deadly shooting led to a high-speed chase, more gunfire, an injured police officer, an injured suspect, and a current police standoff.

According to CBS 11 News sources the 26-year-old male shooting suspect and an officer with the Dallas Police Department were both hit by gunfire during this incident.

The circumstances are believed to have begun with some type of altercation between a man and woman, who were boyfriend and girlfriend. The male suspect is believed to have gone to a house in the 12000 block of Hoblitzelle Lane, in the Hamilton Park neighborhood in east Dallas. Once at the house the 26-year-old suspect is believed to have pulled a weapon and shot a female, later identified as Breshuana Jackson, at least twice.

CBS 11 sources confirm that Jackson was pregnant and she and her child were both killed. Bullets are believed to have struck the 28-year-old woman in the stomach and leg. The unborn child is believed to have died first. Jackson was transported to Baylor Medical Center and was pronounced dead there.

Residents and individuals near the house where the shooting happened say the residence is used as some sort of babysitting location.

Hamilton Elementary School is near the initial shooting location and was placed on lockdown as a precaution. A special exit plan was initiated and parents are being allowed to come and pick up children at 3:30 p.m.

After the shooting at the house on Hoblitzelle the male suspect jumped into a grey-colored, four-door vehicle and fled. He led police on a high-speed chase that went from Interstate-30, to 75/Central Expressway, to Greenville Avenue, and back into the Hamilton Park area. The suspect/driver was traveling at excessive speeds that at some points are believed to have topped 100 mph.

It was during that chase that shots were fired, both by the suspect and by police officers. The suspect and DPD Officer Daniel Malouf, were both injured during those exchanges of gunfire. The extent of the suspect's injuries aren't known. CBS 11 has learned that Officer Malouf was shot in the lower abdomen, but was wearing a bulletproof vest and is expected to be fine. He was transported to Medical City Hospital in Dallas and is in good condition.

After weaving on numerous streets through a residential area the suspect jumped from the vehicle and ran to the rear of a home in the 12000 block of Galva Drive and entered the back door.  It isn't known who, if anyone, is inside the house.

Police are now treating the incident as a barricaded person situation. Dozens of Dallas police officers are on the scene and residents in the area are being ordered to stay indoors.
