Deadly Crash Closes I-35N Outside Of Waco
FORT WORTH (AP/CBSDFW.COM) -- At least one person is dead after a chain collision of 13 vehicles on Interstate 35 northbound just outside of Waco.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened about 12:45 p.m. Monday.
DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson says at least one person was killed in a vehicle crushed beneath one of four 18-wheelers involved in the crash. A fire-rescue officer who was able to crawl under the trailer confirmed the fatality.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of the heavily traveled interstate for hours, forcing traffic onto frontage roads. Senior Trooper Harpin Meyer said 16 people were able to drive themselves to a Temple hospital 15 miles to the south. Another was taken 15 miles north to a Waco hospital.
The Department of Public Safety expects the northbound lanes of I-35 will be closed for several more hours.
