Darvish Allows 4 Runs In Rangers' Intrasquad Game

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) – Yu Darvish gave up four runs and six hits in five innings Sunday in a Texas Rangers' intrasquad game.

The Japanese rookie struck out 11 and gave up all his runs in the fourth against a batting order of mostly minor leaguers. Texas chose not to pitch him in the exhibition game against the AL West rival Los Angeles Angels.

While intrasquad games are usually played on back fields with no admission, this one was played at the Surprise Stadium with admission being charged as part of a doubleheader that included an exhibition between the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers.

An estimated 450 fans were in the stadium to see Darvish, a 25-year-old right-hander who went 18-6 with a 1.44 ERA last year for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League.
