Dallas Zoo's New Baby Giraffe Finally Gets A Name

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The Dallas Zoo's newest giraffe finally has a name. It's Kopano.
The name means "united" in the Tswana language of the African nation of Botswana. It was chosen in an online poll on dallaszoo.com.
The zoo announced the winning name Monday.
Kopano's birth was announced last week. The giraffe is already hit 6 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds.
The zoo had first auctioned off naming rights. An anonymous bidder who won with a $50,000 donation at the Dallas Zoo annual fundraiser then allowed the zoo to put the giraffe's name up for a public vote. The three possible names, all African in origin, were: Kopano (from Botswana, meaning "united"), Usawa (means "equality" in Swahili) and Shingo (means "neck" in Swahili).
The last giraffe to be born at the Dallas Zoo was in 2011 and named Jamie, after 8-month-old cancer victim James Camden Sikes.
