Dallas Woman Loses Husband & Son In Murder-Suicide
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - A south Oak Cliff mother is struggling to understand why her husband shot and killed her son in front of her, then committed suicide himself.
Bridget Alexander still can't believe she witnessed the argument between her husband and her son from a previous marriage.
The blowup between 49-year-old Reginald Wayne Brewer and 22-year-old Charles Green centered on an incident last month when Alexander said her husband beat her. "And he started beating on me. Beat my face up pretty bad," she said.
According to Alexander, Brewer had been dealing with bad news from a doctor and some heart issues. She told CBS 11 News her husband had also lost his mother recently.
Alexander, who didn't want her face shown during the CBS 11 interview, said she went to the house in the 400 block of Goldwood on Friday afternoon to pick up some effects.
The argument allegedly erupted when Brewer spoke to his stepson last night. Alexander recalled the incident and how it began with her husband told her son, "'I know you're mad at what I did to your mama and I'm sorry.' And I thought that was the end of it, because my son was like, he was going to accept the apology but next thing I know he shot him."
Charles Green died at the scene. Alexander recalled what her husband did after the shooting. "Then he turned to me and said he didn't mean to do that. And then he sat down, grabbed some stuff and walked outside for maybe two to three minutes, and came back in and picked the gun back up and shot himself in the chest."
When police arrived they found both Green and Brewer dead.
Larry Crowe was a friend of Brewer. "It's just devastating what happened," he said adding, "[We were] very close, he was pretty much like a son of mine."
Crowe said Brewer's long-time friends called him Wayne. He had held the same job for more than 30 years and was liked by everyone he worked with. "When his mom passed away about three weeks ago his supervisor and manager was there at the funeral. And everybody always spoke very highly of Wayne and loved him."
Though Green was not Brewer's biological child he had raised him since he was a small boy.
Alexander said she got word Friday that her son had gotten a job he wanted. The news came hours after he died.
