DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas woman foiled an attempted robbery and carjacking after a man tried to steal her car while she was sitting in the passenger seat.

The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. at 7-Eleven in Northeast Dallas at the corner of Ferguson Road and Oates Drive. According to police, a family of four was out getting coffee, and the woman was waiting on family members inside the running vehicle.

The woman told investigators that an adult white male jumped in the car and demanded money. When she refused, he started driving the vehicle away. The woman struggled with the suspect, causing the suspect to drive erratically.

The suspect drove the vehicle into a pole and a parked trailer on Healey Drive. The vehicle came to a stop about eight blocks away after striking a pole in the parking lot of a Smoker's Choice Tobacco Shop on Centerville Road.

Police say the suspect displayed a weapon, but did not harm the complainant with the weapon.

The woman exited the vehicle and continued to struggle with the suspect. The man eventually let her go and escaped on foot. Police now have a suspect in custody.

The victim sustained minor injuries from the struggle and was treated at the scene and released.
